a rare update

i've been so busy with the folk dogs that i sort of have forgotten that i have this site, too. naturally, i have only folk dog news to report!

barkwheats, a groovy company out of stockton springs, maine, is going to feature folk dogs on their new dog treat packaging, which should roll out this october! this is a really great opportunity for me, and i'm super-psyched to be working with the awesome folks at barkwheats.

it's small world, people, and i'm glad to be in it.

3.13.09 > the daily coffee show

what an awesome, super-fun way to get back into the pattern of playing shows. this was my first show since breaking my finger badly last september in a freak woodpile accident. it's been almost 6 months since that disgusting day (see franken-finger progress pics here (not for the faint of heart)), and i'm happy to say i played a pain-free show last night, hooray! i probably still have another 4-6 months before the finger is "normal" but it's good to know that i can play for a couple of hours and not really notice ...

anyway, THANKS everyone for showing up at the daily. it was great to see your smiling faces, and i hope you had as fun a time as i had. i'm trusting the 6-year-olds among us ended the night pretty exhausted :) sorry about the broken string ... i gotta take the martin in and have it tuned up.

some of you asked, so: yes, there really, truly, actually is a for-real album in process. my friend (and, as it happens, my boss), david thompson (of kane's river and fishing music fame), is helping me record and produce, and last weekend we got scratch tracks down for a whole bunch of songs. david is co-captaining this effort in every way, and i appreciate not only his huge time commitment but also his insights, ideas, and inclinations. i have intentionally not put a time limit on the album, but my gut says it might be out sometime toward the end of 2009 or early 2010.

and that is the show journal for last night. here are a few more pics:

a gush of thanks

thank you thank you thank you to everyone who made it out to the 'folk dogs' opening at tart on thursday night (and thanks, too, to those of you who were there in spirit...).

after the explosion thursday morning, which i witnessed from my office at the corner of rouse and main, i was pretty subdued and almost ready to cancel the opening. but kind words from good pals kept my chin up, and wow, i think we had 50 people or something like that, and maybe more. two red dots and a bunch of money for tartress anna later, i couldn't be happier.

plus, it's possible that jazz the jack russell terrier got adopted by my coworker jessica (please forgive the passive voice).

so, after an otherwise crappy day, everyone wins, thanks to a great community -- you guys are the best!

new site!

well, after several years of the old site, i decided spontaneously that it's time for a new one. i think mainly i needed a way to purge the bad injury juju of 2008 in order to feel good about 2009, and somehow in my brain that became 'get a new website.' so i did. thanks to the fine fellows at thermal creative for straightening out my hideous code and making this thing a reality.

there are a few shows on the schedule, and more to come. i'll be posting show journals and miscellaneous other junk here. hooray for a new start!
